중년 남성의 성역할스트레스가 중년의 위기감에 미치는 영향

The Effect of gender role stress in middle-aged male on mid-life crisis: the moderated mediation effects of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and emotional clarity

본 연구는 중년 남성을 대상으로 성역할스트레스와 중년의 위기감의 관계에서 정서표현양가성의 매개효과를 검증하고, 정서표현양가성이 중년의 위기감에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 정서인식명확성의 조절효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중년 남성 292명을 대상으로 성역할 스트레스, 중년의 위기감, 정서표현양가성, 정서인식명확성에 대한 자기보고식 설문을 실시하였다. PROCESS Macro를 사용하여 분석한 결과, 성역할스트레스와 중년의 위기감의 관계에서 정서표현양가성의 매개효과가 유의하였으며, 정서표현양가성과 중년의 위기감의 관계에서 정서인식명확성의 조절효과가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 성역할스트레스가 정서표현양가성을 통해 중년의 위기감에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 정서인식명확성이 정서표현양가성의 매개효과를 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 정서표현양가성이 높더라도 정서인식명확성이 높을 경우에는 성역할스트레스가 중년의 위기감에 미치는 영향이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 성역할스트레스가 많아 정서표현양가성을 매개로 중년의 위기감이 높아질 때, 정서인식명확성을 높여주는 것이 효과적임을 의미한다. 본 연구는 성역할 스트레스와 정서표현양가성, 정서인식명확성이 중년 남성의 위기감에 영향을 미치는 과정을 종합적으로 확인하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 결과를 통하여 위기감을 경험하는 중년남성을 위해서 , 우선 내면화된 성역할이 중년남성의 삶에 미치는 영향에 대한 이해를 높이고, 정서표현에 대한 태도와 두려움을 심층적으로 탐색, 자각할 수 있도록 돕고 정서표현의 필요성에 대한 인식을 고취시키며, 중년남성들이 자신의 정서를 명확하게 알아차리고 적절하게 표현할 수 있도록 촉진하는 상담적 개입이 필요함을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 제한점과 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 논의하였다.

This study examines the mediating effect of the ambivalence of emotional expressiveness in the relationship between gender role stress and the sense of mid-life crisis middle-aged male and the moderating effect of emotional clarity in the process that the ambivalence of emotional expressiveness affects the sense of mid-life crisis. To this end, a self-report questionnaire was conducted on 292 middle-aged male on gender role stress, mid-life crisis, ambivalence in emotional expressiveness, and emotional clarity. As a result of analysis using the PROCESS Macro, the mediating effect of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness was significant in the relationship between gender role stress and the sense of mid-life crisis. It was found that the moderating effect of emotional clarity was significant in the relationship between ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and mid-life crisis. In addition, it was found that emotional clarity moderates the mediating effect of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness in the process that gender role stress affects the sense of mid-life crisis through ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. That is, even if the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness is high, when the emotional clarity is high, the sense of mid-life crisis decreases. This means that it is effective to increase the emotional clarity when the sense of mid-life crisis increases through the medium of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness due to high gender role stress. This study is significant in that it comprehensively identified the process in which gender role stress, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, and emotional clarity affect the sense of crisis in middle-aged male. Results from this study confirmed that for middle-aged male experiencing a sense of crisis, counseling interventions are needed to enhance their understanding of the impact of internalized gender roles on middle-aged men s lives, help them explore and recognize attitudes and fears of emotional expression. Finally, the limitations of this study and suggestions for subsequent studies are discussed.
