정전론(正戰論)의 도덕교육적 함의에 관한 연구

A study on the moral educational implications of the just war theory

본 연구의 목적은 ‘전쟁’이라는 주제가 과연 도덕의 영역으로 들어올 수 있는지에 대해 탐구하는 것이다. 일반적으로 전쟁터는 무법천지이며 인간성이 말살되는 곳이기에 도덕이 관여할 영역이 아니라는 생각이 지배적이다. 이러한 입장을 대표하는 관점으로 현실주의를 들 수 있으며, 이 사상에서 전쟁은 도덕이 관여할 수 없는 영역이거나 혹은 전쟁 중에 도덕을 주장하는 것은 무용한 것이라고 본다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 현실주의의 주장과는 다르게 전쟁 또한 도덕의 영역으로 들어와야 하며 또한 도덕의 제어를 받아야 하는 대상이라고 주장하고자 한다. 이러한 논의가 바로 ‘정전론’이다. 본 연구에서는 전쟁과 도덕의 무관함을 주장하는 현실주의에 대해 비판을 가하고 정전론을 소개하고자 한다. 그리고 이 정전론이 현행 교육과정 속에서 다른 사회교과와는 다른 도덕교과만의 함의를 가질 수 있는지에 대해 논해 보고자 한다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the subject of ‘war’ can enter the realm of morality. The prevailing view is that battlefields are lawless and that morality is not an area to be involved in because human nature is exterminated. Realism can be cited as a representative point of view of this position, and in this idea, war is an area where morality cannot be involved, or it is useless to argue morality during the war. However, this study argues that, contrary to the arguments of realism, war must also enter the realm of morality, and also argues that it is an subject that must be controlled by morality. This discussion is the ‘just war theory’. This study attempts to criticize realism, which insists on the irrelevance between war and morality, and introduce the just war theory. And this study will discuss whether this just war theory can have its own implications for moral subjects that are different from other social subjects in the current curriculum.
