예비 초등교사의 초등체육경험 및 교사신념 탐구

Exploring pre-service elementary generalists’ past elementary physical education experiences and beliefs

본 연구는 예비 초등교사의 과거 체육 수업 경험과 그들의 교육신념을 조사하고 과거의 체육 수업이 현재 예비 초등교사의 체육수업와 관련된 교육신념에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 탐구하는 것에 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 목적 달성을 위해 총 6명(남성 3명, 여성 3명)의 예비 초등교사가 모집되었다. 연구에 동의한 예비 초등교사들은 반 구조화된 인터뷰에 참여하였다. 전사된 인터뷰는 Braun과 Clarke(2006)에 제시한 6단계 주제 분석을 활용하여 분석되었으며, 자료의 진실성은 Lincoln과 Guba(1985)가 제시한 구성원 간 검토, 동료 간 협의, 심층적 기술 방법을 사용하여 확보하였다. 분석결과 다음과 같은 결과가 도출되었다. 첫째, 본 연구에 참여한 예비 초등교사는 초등 체육교육의 주된 목적은 사회성 발달과 생애주기 신체활동을 위한 기초 함량이라고 믿었다. 이는 과거 체육 경험이 영향을 미친 것으로 판단된다. 둘째, 본 연구의 예비 초등교사는 엇갈리는 체육 경험을 하였다. 셋째, 예비 초등교사의 엇갈리는 체육 경험은 예비 초등교사의 교육신념에 영향을 미쳤다. 이 결과는 교사 교육자는 예비교사들의 교육신념과 과거 경험을 이해해 그들이 좋은 교육신념을 형성해 나갈 수 있도록 안내해 미래의 학생들에게 질 높은 체육 수업을 경험할 수 있도록 해야 한다는 것을 보여준다. 질 높은 초등체육 수업 경험은 미래의 초등교사를 꿈꾸는 학생들에게 매우 중요하다. 이는 교사를 꿈꾸는 학생들은 그들의 수업 경험을 통해 교과와 교사라는 직업에 대한 이미지와 교육신념을 형성하기 때문이다. 따라서 교사 교육자는 질 높은 체육 수업을 제공할 수 있는 교사를 양성할 수 있도록 노력해야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to explore pre-service generalists’ beliefs about the purpose of physical education(PE), and their past elementary PE experiences, and their influence on their pedagogical beliefs. Six pre-service elementary generalists were recruited. For this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted. Three themes emerged from the data: 1) development of social skills and foundation for lifelong physical activity(LPA), 2) mixed elementary PE experiences, 3) influence of the mixed experiences on the perception of teaching elementary PE. Understanding pre-service teacher’s past PE experience and their pedagogical beliefs about PE is important because the beliefs formed by the experience significantly influence the way they learn and teach, and water down all training that teacher education provides. Thus, PE teacher educators should understand past PE experiences and pedagogical beliefs of pre-service teachers and help them build good pedagogical beliefs. This would provide quality PE to students who want to be PE teachers.
