Purpose : This study investigated the mediating effect of nurses’ image on the relationship between work value and major commitment among nursing students. Methods : Data of 156 nursing students were collected from January 3th to January 20th, 2020. They were analyzed using the independent t-test, one way analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. A mediation analysis was performed using the Baron and Kenny method and Sobel test. Results : There was significant correlation found between work value and nurses’ image(r=.56, p<.001), work value and major commitment(r=.66, p<.001), and nurses’ image and major commitment (r=.55, p<.001). Nurses’ image had a mediating effect on the relationship between work value and major commitment. Conclusion : We found the importance of the role of nurses’ image as a partial mediating variable. Therefore, to improve the major commitment of nursing students, it is necessary to enhance the work value and nurses’ image. To achieve this, close cooperation and strategies to enhance nurses’ image are necessary not only with universities, but also with the Korean Nurses Association and hospitals. In addition, universities need systematic nursing educational programs and curriculum development studies to establish a positive work value and nurses’ image.
