한인이민 1세대의 여성 리더십 모델과 영성에 관한 연구

Empowering Women’s Leadership Models and Spirituality: First-Generation Korean Immigrant Women Leaders in North America

미국과 캐나다의 북미 지역에서 사역하는 한인이민 1세대의 기독교 여성 리더들은 다수가 아닌 소수로 성차별, 인종차별, 계급차별, 이민차별, 그들이 속한 교회 안에서의 가부장적인 문화와 구조 등으로 인한 차별이 교차하여 발생하는 많은 장애물에 직면하고 있다. 그러나 한인이민 1세대의 여성 사역자들은 그들이 처한 차별적인 교회와 이민 사회에서 사역을 지속할 수 있는 강인한 영성을 개발시켰다. 본 연구는 여성신학적인 관점에서 경험적인 연구, 여성비평학적 역사 해석학, 실천신학 등을 교차시킨 다학문간 연구방법론을 추구한다. 경험적 연구방법론을 위해서, 문화인류학적인 연구의 일환인 구술학적인 연구방법론을 시행하여 성차별, 제한된 이민 생활을 경험하고 있는 한인이민 1세대 여성들의 신앙, 기독교 회심의 경험, 기도생활, 목회사역, 장애 등을 조사하면서 어떻게 이런 경험들로 인하여 그들의 독특한 리더십과 영성을 개발하게 되어있는지를 연구하였다. 그들이 실제적으로 경험한 삶은 구술사를 통한 간증, 즉 내러티브 분석을 통해서 이루어졌다. 이 분석들을 종합하여 새로운 여성 리더십 모델 및 그들의 영성에 대해서 제시하면서 연구 참여자들과 다른 여성들을 고무하는데 공헌하려 하였다. 이 연구는 세 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 한국여성 기도운동과 한국 대형 교회 운동을 포함한 다양한 한국 개신교 부흥 운동에 주체적으로 기여한 여성들의 역할, 한국과 북미의 교회 안에서 직면하는 한인여성 리더들의 사역의 어려움과 보이지 않는 차별적인 현실 및 토착화된 한국기독교의 이민 교회로의 전승과 영향력, 한인여성 사역자들의 리더십 역량 부여, 영성 생활 등에 대한 간증 등으로 구성되어 있다.

First-generation Korean Christian women leaders face multiple challenges including discrimination as members of minority groups based on the intersection of gender, race, class, immigration status, patriarchal culture and structure of their religious communities in North Americathe U.S. and Canada. However, first-generation Korean immigrant women leaders developed a unique spirituality of marginalization that made them strong enough survive in their marginalized social and immigration contexts. In the field of Women s Studies in Religion, my research pursues a transdisciplinary approach intersecting empirical research, feminist critical historical hermeneutics, and practical theology. For the empirical approach, ethnographic research has been designed to facilitate an oral history methodology to survey first-generation Korean immigrant women leaders experiences of faith, conversion, prayer lifestyle, pastoral ministry, and marginalizationwhile dealing with gender discrimination and restricted immigration statusand how these led them to develop their unique leadership and spirituality. The oral historical narrative analyses reveal hidden layers of their lived experiences. The synthesis of these analyses contributes to unveiling new women s leadership models and spirituality that empower them and others. This research is divided into three parts: women leaders agency in Korean Protestant movements, including ？Korean Women s Prayer Movement†and Korean mega-church movement, transnational ties of women leaders marginalization and invisibility in the Koreanized Christianity both in South Korea and North America, and Narratives on Korean women leaders empowerment and spirituality.
