난독증 성인이 경험한 삶에 대한 생애사연구

A Life History Study of the Life Experienced by Adults with Dyslexia

목적 본 연구는 난독증 성인의 생애 경험 분석을 통해 개인적 그리고 사회 구조적인 원인과 경향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 개인이 경험한 삶과 생각에 대해 더 구체적으로 이해할 수 있는 질적 연구방법 중 생애사 분석 방법을 활용하였다. 난독증 성인 1명과 8회의 구술면담을 통해 수집한 자료를 분석하여, 인생진행 과정구조를 도출하고, 생애사적 발달과정 구조분석도 실시하였다. 결과 연구결과, 연구참여자는 학령기에 읽기/쓰기 어려움에 대한 적절한 지원을 받지 못하였으며, 본인이 학습부진이 아니라 난독증이라는 인식도 성인이 된 후에 하게 되었다. 학령기기에는 읽기/쓰기 어려움으로 낮은 학업성취와 창피함 등 정서적 어려움을 경험하였는데, 이러한 읽기쓰기로 인한 어려움은 학령기에만 국한되지 않았고, 직장생활과 가정생활에도 지속적으로 영향을 미쳤으며, 써야 하는 상황을 회피하며 불안과 두려움을 안은 채 살아오고 있었다. 결론 난독증으로 인한 어려움은 시간이 지난다고 저절로 나아지는 것이 아니었다. 난독증 성인에 대한 적절한 지원을 모색할 필요가 있으며, 본 연구는 난독증 성인에 대한 기초자료를 제공한 데 의의가 있다.

Objectives The purposes of this study was to investigate individual, social and structural causes and trends through the analysis of life experienced by adults with dyslexia. Methods For this purpose the life history analysis method was used among qualitative research methods that can more specifically understand the lives and though experienced by individuals rather than generalization through quantitative surveys. The data collected through 8 interviews with the 1 participant were analyzed, and they were analyzed by dividing them into life periods of school, work life, and family life. In addition, a ‘life-historical developmental process structure analysis’ was also conducted. Results As a result, the participant did not receive adequate supports for difficulties in reading and writing during school age. The recognition that she was not a poorly learner but a dyslexia came to pass after she became an adult. During the school age, she experienced emotional difficulties because of low academic achievement and embarrassment due to difficulties in reading and writing. This difficulties in reading and writing was not limited to school age, but had an effect on work and family life continuously. The participant had lived to avoid reading and writing situations, and with anxiety and fear Conclusions Difficulties caused by dyslexia did not improve by itself over time. Therefore it is necessary to seek appropriate supports for adults with dyslexia, and this study is significant in providing basic data for adults with dyslexia.
