This study was carried out to examine the effect of size and shape of the floc on the floc settling velocity. Image analysis system and photographic method were used to measure the size and shape of the aluminum-kaolinite floc. Except the width of the floc, the variation tendency of characteristic sizes of the floc was very similar to each other and had correlation coefficient(R) of 0.93 to 0.97. floc-settling velocity was affected by the characteristic size of the floc and a function of the floc size. The floc settling velocity was found to be a linear function of the longest length and Feret diameter of the floc and to be a 0.69 and 0.83 power respectively. The correlation coefficient(R) of the floc size and floc settling velocity was about 0. 73. floc-settling velocity was decreased as in - creasing the facing size of settling direction and had 0.59 of correlation coefficient(R). floc-settling velocity was decreased as increasing the ratio of width to the longest length and increased as circularity of the floc.
