영화 <이장>에 드러난 가족 해체 위기 극복 방식의 한계 고찰

A Review on the Limits of the Method of Overcoming the Family Dissolution Crisis Revealed in the Movie <Move the Grave>

본 연구의 목적은 한국 사회 또는 가족 공동체가 직면한 문제인 가부장제가 영상 매체를 통해 어떠한 방식으로 구현되고 있으며, 그 안에서 드러나는 여성의 현실과 대응 방식을 분석하여 그 의미와 한계를 고찰해보는 것에 있다. 영화는 현실을 강하게 반영하는 매체, 즉 그 시대 또는 사회가 암묵적으로 강요하는 관습의 결과로 생산된다. 따라서 영화에서 재현되는 현실 속 다양한 문제와 이를 인식하고 개선하고자 하는 방안을 규명하는 작업은 지속적으로 이루어질 필요가 있다. 이와 관련하여 영화 <이장>은 21세기에도 여전히 가족 구성원 간 위계적 질서를 형성하는 가부장제 문제와 그로 인한 가족의 해체 위기를 다룬다. 영화 <이장>은 여전히 한국 사회에 뿌리 깊게 자리 잡고 있는 가부장제에 대한 민낯을 보여줌으로써 위계적 질서로 인한 성차에 따른 차별과 불인정 형태의 문제점을 드러낸다. 중요한 점은 가부장제라는 위계적 질서로 인하여 발생하는 차별은 여성 간의 갈등을 유발하고 나아가 주체인 남성으로부터 투쟁할 수 있는 기회마저도 박탈 당할 수 있는 위험성을 초래한다는 것이다. 그러나 영화 <이장>은 가부장제로 인한 가족 구성원 해체 위기가 극복되는 과정을 단순히 갈등 해소 및 서로에 대한 사랑과 포용으로 가능하다는 것을 보여줄 뿐, 정작 근본적인 원인을 현실적으로 해결할 수 있는 방안은 제시하지 못한다. 오히려 근본적인 원인으로 지목되는 가부장제는 해체가 아닌 고착되고 있으며, 이에 따라 사회 인식 변화 역시 이루어질 수 없다는 한계를 드러낸다.

The purpose of this study is to review the meaning and the limit of patriarchy faced by Korean society or the family community by researching how it is embodied in video media and by analyzing the reality of women and the coping method of women revealed in this media. The movie is a media that reflects reality strongly; in other words, movies are produced as a result of customs that the era or the society force implicitly. Therefore, it is necessary to continue work that identifies themeasures to recognize or improve various problems in reality that are realized in films. In relation to this, <Move the grave> deals with the problem of patriarchy that still forms the hierarchical order between family members in the 21th century and the resulting risk of family dissolution. The movie <Move the grave> reveals the problems of gender discrimination and disapproval caused by hierarchical order, showing the naked face of the patriarchy, which is still deeply rooted in Korean society. The important point is that discrimination arising from the hierarchical order of patriarchy leads to conflicts between women and furthermore, increases the risk of being deprived of the opportunity to fight the man who subjugates. However, the movie <Move the grave> only shows that the process of overcoming risk of family dissolution is through solving conflicts and is possible love and tolerance toward each other. It fails to suggest measures that can solve the root cause realistically. The patriarchy, which is the root cause, is not dismantled but is seen as permanent, and it reveals a limit that a change in social recognition is not possible.
