Good texts play an important role in people’s life. ‘TheGiver’ raises thought provoking questions on our life such as a life of sameness and a lifewithout memories. Fromthese reasons, ’The Giver‘ has been used in many English classes as providing in-depth discussions as well as English learning texts. A total of 28 college students registered for general English classes were selected as subjects. They were divided into two groups, Background knowledge group and No Background knowledge group. They were compared with their translated works. Background group translated the vocabularywithmore suitablewordswhileNo Background group used the directly translated words. From this study, it has been shown that providing a good context can be a key to vocabulary translation.
