남한 신석기-청동기시대 이행에 대한 맥락적 이해

Contextual Approach to the Transition of Neolithic to Bronze Age in South Korea

남한 신석기-청동기시대 이행과정에 대한 개연적이고 체계적인 설명은 여전히 우리 선사고고학 의 큰 숙제이다. 당초 의도와는 상관없이 청동기시대 조기에 관련된 논의는 일단 그러한 숙제의 해결에 발을 들여놓게 되었다. 그리된 데에는 ‘주민 남하’라는 동인과 ‘농업사회의 성립’이라는 결과를 ‘설명’의 시말에 놓았기 때문이다. 그러나 당시의 기후(변화), 정착지의 생산배경 및 생산 방식 등에 대한 거시적, 정황적 정보를 심각하게 고려하지 않은 것 때문에 다소 ‘맥락’에서 벗어날 수도 있는 설명이 양산되기도 하였다. 본고는 신석기⋅청동기시대 기후궤적에 대한 최근의 성과와 관련 유적의 석제 도구조합상 및 그 주변의 토양양상 분석을 통해 남한 신석기-청동기시대 이행의 시말에 관련된 설명에서 장해(障 害) 또는 암초(暗礁)가 될 만한 요소들을 지적한다.

It has been a long standing question how the transition of Neolithic to Bronze Age in South Korea processed. Whatever the original idea is, the discussion about the Initial Period of Bronze Age step in the effort to answer the question. It is attributed to proposed that the transition was initiated by the migration of population from the northen part of Korean Peninsula or Liodong, China, and completed by the formation of agricultural society in South Korea. However, the proposition seems to be out of context, because it is not compatible with the information about climatic condition at that time, and the condition and patterns of subsistence production at the destination. Reconstructing climate fluctuation during Neolithic and Bronze Age, and analyzing composition of stone tools from and soilscapes around the sites relevant to the transition, I point out what could be obstacles or reefs in proper understanding and explaining how the transition went.
