지체장애인의 자립생활에 대한 인식 및 경험 고찰

A Qualitative Study on Perceptions and Experiences of Independent Living of Persons with Physical Disabilities : Focusing on Residential Service

최근 국내에서는 장애인당사자를 중심으로 자립생활에 대한 요구가 점차 증가하고 있으며, 자립생활센터를 중심으로 지체장애인의 주거환경에서의 자립에 대한 노력과 시도가 확대되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 실제로 자립생활을 하고 있는 지체장애인의 경험과 요구를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 자립생활의 경험이 있는 지체장애인 8명을 대상으로 포커스그룹 면담과 개별면담을 실시하여 당사자 관점에서 자립생활에 대한 의견을 조사하였다. 수집된 면담자료는 질적 분석되었으며, 그 결과 3개의 주제와 9개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 3개의 주제와 하위주제는 다음과 같다. (1) 자립생활을 이끄는 동인-자립생활에 대한 인식, 자립생활을 시작하게 된 계기, 자립생활을 위한 준비과정, (2) 자립생활에 대한 실제 경험 및 접근 장벽-자립생활의 실제, 자립생활에 대한 개인의 만족, 자립생활시 경험하는 어려움, (3) 자립생활을 위한 지원요구-정책적 지원의 필요성, 개인의 역량 강화, 가족 및 학교, 지역사회의 준비. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 주거서비스 측면에서 요구되는 자립생활에 대한 정책적, 교육적 시사점을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and experiences of persons with physical disabilities regarding independent living(IL), especially focusing on residential service, and to provide the suggestions for independent living. To serve this purpose, focus group interviews and in-depth interviews were conducted with 8 people with physical disabilities. The result showed 3 main themes with 9 sub-categories. Main themes and sub-themes were as follows: (1) momentum to the independent living - perception on IL, the reason to start living independently, preparation for IL, (2) experiences of IL and barriers to accessing independent living - the reality of IL, one s satisfaction for IL, the challenges of living independently, (3) support needs of independent living - the need for policy supports to practice, strengthening the capacity of individuals, preparation of family, school and community for IL. Based on the findings, practical and educational implications for independent living were discussed.
