A good reading strategy is one of the issues attendant on developing L2 learners competence in English. We may as well say that an attractive reading strategy whets learners interest in reading and that a strategy canon in a pedagogical manner helps L2 learners foster their reading skills. Believing that strands of twine are often braided to gain strength, this paper explores the degree of effectiveness to which reading strategies have contributed to the improvement of reading comprehension. To see what the crux of a reading strategy should be like and which strategy has worked better in helping L2 learners build up their reading competence, we review previous papers of reading comprehension strategies. With an approach intended to cultivate L2 learners knowledge of reading comprehension, described in this paper are strategies as follows: SQ3R, Bottom-up/Top-down processing, and Interactive processing. This paper purposes to probe a more suitable reading technique to build up L2 learners comprehension competence and to bring about efficiency in their text reading. Through a comparative approach to what has been so far studied, this paper peers into whether there is a more applicable reading mechanism, through which to enhance L2 learners reading capability, not merely cavilling at the previous reading strategies.
