The paper will illustrate that head movements at syntax do not affect the label of the derived structure, with reference to the difference of the verbal inflections between English and French, although they do not undergo an adjunction but instead do a substitution targeting the root. The paper will show that head movements are required at syntax, irrespectively of whether verbs are introduced with fully inflected forms or bare forms lacking phonological features.
