국내 장애아 조부모 역할 증진에 대한 고찰

Consideration for the increase of Korean grandparents roles that have a grandchild with a disability

본 연구는 국내의 장애아 조부모 참여와 지원을 증진시키기 위한 방안을 모색할 목적으로, 일반 조부모 및 장애아 조부모와 관련된 선행연구들을 토대로 장애아 조부모의 역할에 대해 고찰하였다. 본 연구는 가족 내에서 조부모가 차지하는 지위와 역할에 대한 검토 이후, 국내 조부모 세대가 장애아동에 대하여 어떻게 인식하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이러한 조부모의 지위, 역할, 인식을 배경으로 국내 및 외국 문헌들이 장애아 조부모에 대해 어떻게 보고하고 있는지를 조사하였다. 구체적으로, 손자녀의 장애가 조부모에게 미치는 영향, 장애아 조부모의 역할, 조부모의 참여가 부모 적응에 미치는 영향에 대해 살펴보았다. 이러한 검토를 바탕으로, 국내의 장애아 조부모들의 역할을 증대시키기 위하여 교사 및 관련 전문가들의 역할과 가족 구성원들의 역할에 대하여 제안하였다. 본 연구는 국내 장애아 조부모 연구의 양적인 부족이라는 한계를 지적하면서, 향후 장애아 조부모 연구의 활발한 연구 진행을 위해 몇 가지의 연구 방향들을 제시하였다.

This study reviewed literature on the roles of grandparents who have a child with a disability to identify ways to increase grandparents involvement and support in families of children with disabilities. The focal points of the study focused on grandparents s roles in a family, Korean grandparents cultural views on disability, the impact of grandchildren s disabilities on grandparents, the roles of grandparents in families of children with disabilities, and the relationship between grandparents support and parents adaptation. The study revealed that grandparents are the most valuable support base to families of children with disabilities among the sources of social support for the family. Based on the review, the study also revealed and suggested the roles of family members as well as of educators and relevant professionals to increase grandparents involvement and support. Although there are some literatures regarding grandparents of children with disabilities, most existing studies dealt with grandparents who have different cultures. That is, little is known about Korean grandparents of grandchildren with disabilities. Therefore, this study recommended pressing research issues related to Korean grandparents of children with disabilities for researchers, teachers, and other professionals to be able to create appropriate support programs for the grandparents.
