희귀질환을 가지고 있는 장애학생의 질환별 특성 및 교육적 지원 고찰

A Study on the Characteristics and Educational Support for Children with Rare Diseases

특수학교에 재학하고 있는 학생들의 장애는 갈수록 중증·중복화되고 있으며, 다양한 질병을 동반하고 있는 경우가 많이 늘고 있다. 실제 특수학교에 재학하고 있는 희귀질환을 지고 있는 중증장애학생의 경우, 다른 학생에 비하여 장애 특성 외에 질환과 관련하여 다양하고 복잡한 요구를 지니고 있음에도 불구하고, 희귀질환을 갖고 있는 장애학생에 대한 교육적 지원방법에 대한 연구는 미미하다. 이 연구는 서울시내 지체부자유 특수학교에 5개교에 재학하고 있는 지체장애학생들 중 보건복지부의 의료지 지원을 받고 있는 희귀난치성질환을 갖고 있는 학생들의 질환 7종에 대하여 임상적 특징과 교육적 지원 전략을 연구하였다. 임상적 특징과 교육적 지원 전략의 조사를 위해 국내·외의 문헌을 고찰하였으며, 연구 내용의 타당성 확인을 위하여 희귀질환 관련 전문의와 현직 특수교사의 내용 검증을 거쳤다. 연구의 결과에 따라 이를 교육현장에서 현실적으로 반영할 수 있는 제안들이 함께 논의되었다.

Students registered in special schools have been shown to have severe and multiple disabilities and many of them have chronic health conditions that both medical professionals and educators concern. In case of students who have rare diseases, they might have more complex educational needs than others who do not have such condition. The present study was to examine medical and developmental characteristics of students with severe and multiple disabilities who also had rare diseases. In addition, educational support strategies for those students were also investigated through professional articles and information retrieved from internet sites. A total of six medical professionals and special education teachers verified the results do the study. Based on the information form 5 special schools for physically handicapped in Seoul, a total of 7 types of rare diseases that commonly identified from students with severe and multiple disabilities were explained in terms of developmental characteristics and educational support strategies. Educational implications for the field were also discussed.
