The proposal in this article tries to explain the discrepancy between syntactic and semantic argument structures of Korean inalienable possession constructions in HPSG framework. Specifically, this article argues that the possessor NP and the body-part NP in the construction form a semantic construal which is characterized by the active zone relation in the sense of Langacker (1984). Based on this idea, this article shows that both of the two NPs belong to syntactic arguments that receive nominative or accusative case from a verb. In addition, it is argued that the two NPs have a strong surface anaphoric relation. This articles shows that the proposed analysis can solve various linguistic problems arising from the construction.
