한국 대학생의 영어 ‘동사+명사’ 연어 능력에 관한 코퍼스 기반 연구

The purpose of this study is to investigate Korean college students knowledge of the verb+noun collocation in English. The subjects were a total of 33 college students. Four English verbs were selected and tested. The results are the following. First, the average score was relatively low as 0.3939. The subjects general English knowledge correlates positively with their collocation knowledge. Second, the average scores of the verbs is in order of hold (0.5833), meet (0.4697), raise (0.3939) and draw (0.1288). Third, the scores by questions of each verb were considerably different, depending on nouns with which the verb combines. From the above results, it can be said that Korean college students knowledge of English verb+noun collocation is very limited. This is probably due to their method of studying vocabulary, i.e., just memorizing words without knowing how they are actually used in context.
