영어 모음자와 발음의 상관성

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the regularity in the English vowel grapheme-phoneme system by analyzing the spelling-sound correspondences found in English monosyllables. To do this, we analyze approximately 15,300 monosyllabic words in the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary v.0.6 with SynKDP 1.5 (SYNthesized Korean Data Processor). This study shows that the English vowel grapheme-phoneme correspondence becomes generally regular when its syllable structures, stresses and origins are considered even though the correspondences appear to be irregular, inconsistent, and illogical if only the one letter-one sound system is considered.
