The purpose of this article is to initiate and encourage critical reflection on mobile technology in language classrooms. This article critically reviews three mobile technologies that are or might in the future be used in language classrooms: electronic books, virtual reality modeling language (VRML), and personal digital assistants (PDAs). Each technology is placed in the context of its physical and instructional characteristics, Potential uses and the issues that might result from its use in classrooms are discussed.
