元 大都의 高麗寺院

Goryeo temple located in Daedo(大都) of Yuan Dynasty

The characteristics of Goryeo temple located in Daedo of Yuan Dynasty during the post Goryeo Dynasty are as follows. Firstly, there existed Goryeo temples in the area of Goryeojang(高麗 莊), massive habitat of Goryeo people located in Daedo that was confirmed by data, Goryeo people have the sense of the community somehow Goryeo temples played a leading part of Goryeo people. Secondly, despite the fact that Danwol(檀越, a benefactor in Buddhism terminology, known as contributor for the temple) of Goryeo temples was not known due to the lack of information, most of the major Danwol were the wives of high officials or Goryeo women who married to Mongolians. The support from the rich people of the high level was natural because the construction of the temple required lots of money. Meanwhile, the participation of grass root in Buddhist activities was common. Thirdly, the chief priests were mostly the Goryeo ones. Fourthly, Buddhist activities were conducted in the Goryeo temple by the officials working for the Yuan from the Goryeo. In the post Goryeo Dynasty, many citizens of different colors, resulting from the rapidly growing exchanges of human resources that had never been made before, moved to the Daedo. A large number of such people formed a Goryeojang as a massive residential area, constructing Goryeo temples under the sense of community. Since the two countries that worshiped the Buddhism, the ties between two countries was strengthened through various kinds of religious activities such as construction of temples. Since post Goryeo Dynasty, numerous Goryeo temples in Daedo was the place where its citizens could resort to a mental resting place as centrifugal roles, while it is meaningful that significant Buddhism exchanges between two countries were far too active than ever before.
