桃形杯와 花形杯의 용도에 대한 추론

An Inference on the Uses of Peach-shaped cups and Flower-shaped cups

가야·신라시대 이형토기 중 도형배(桃形杯)와 화형배(花形杯)의 용도를 밝히는데 연구 목적이 있다. 정설로 인정되는 이들 토기의 용도에 대한 추론은 주로 토기의 외형에 중점을 두었다. 그러나 본 연구는 저장용기로써의 크기와 기능적 구조에 중점을 두고 새로운 시각으로 그 용도를 밝히고자 한다. 연구결과 도형배와 화형배는 심지를 걸칠 수 있는등잔의 구조적 특징이 있다. 또 용도를 결정하는 주요한 요소인 크기에 있어서도 적당한 양의 기름을 저장할 수 있는등잔 크기이다. 게다가 이형토기 모사품으로 등잔 실험을 진행 후 발견한 등잔 사용흔이 도형배와 화형배의 유물에도고착되어 있다. 이 사용흔을 그 시대 우리나라 등잔과 외국출토 등잔의 사용흔과 비교해 보고 소성흔과 사용흔에 대하여 더 자세히 논의한다. 도형배와 화형배를 등잔으로 볼 때 당시 가야와 신라인들에게 있어서 등잔의 의의도 함께 추정해 본다.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the uses of the peach-shaped cups and flower-shaped cups in the Gaya and Silla dynasty. The existing theory of the usage was interpreted mainly focusing on the appearance of the singular pottery. However, this study aims to reveal the use of peach-shaped cups and flower-shaped cups by approaching them from a new perspective, focusing on their size that acts as storage containers as well as their functional structure. As a result of the study, the Gaya and Silla period peach-shaped cups and flower-shaped cups have structural characteristics that can be used as oil lamps. It also has a size that can store a suitable amount of oil for use as an oil lamp. After conducting oil lamp experiments with the singular pottery replica, it was discovered that there were evidence of lamp residue. As a result of observing peach-shaped cups and flower-shaped cups of the Gaya·Silla period, clear use of oil lamp traces were found in actual relics. These traces were compared with the oil lamps used during that period. Also the oil lamp traces were not oxidized and naturally glazed. Many ancient oil lamps have been excavated in the area where the Israelites lived, and this is because the pottery had a special meaning to them. By looking at the significance of these oil lamps, we can also similarly assume the significance of the oil lamps for that of Gaya and Silla dynasties.
