‘아리랑’-디아스포라 서사를 통해 본 국민서사의 탈영토화 과정

The De-territorialization Process of Nation-Narrative Viewed through Arirang-Korean Diaspora Narratives: Focusing on Documentary Film Sound of Nomad: Koryo Arirng and Song of Diaspora: Arirang Road

본 논문은 아리랑이 2012년 유네스코 세계인류무형문화유산으로 등재된 이후 아리랑-디아스포라 서사가 어떻게전개되고 있는지 다큐멘터리 영화를 중심으로 분석하고 조명했다. 구체적인 분석 작품은 《고려 아리랑: 천산의 디바》(2016)와 《디아스포라의 노래: 아리랑 로드》(2019)이다. 이 두 작품은 기존의 한민족 디아스포라 서사 틀을 기반으로 하면서도 현재 디아스포라 사회의 세대 변화와 그로 인해 발생하는 이질적인 정체성과 감정구조를 살펴볼수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 본 논문은 이 두 작품에서 재현되고 있는 아리랑의 탈영토성에 초점을 맞춰 이를해석하고 번역하는 두 개의 시선을 논의했다. 하나의 시선은 아리랑디아스포라서사에서 억압되어왔던 사회주의맥락과 여성주체의 이야기를 복원한다. 이를 통해 기존의 국민서사 내외부에서 민족적 정체성이 어떻게 혼종화되는지를 살폈다. 아리랑의 혼종성이 국민서사의 가장자리에서 균열을 내면서 새로운 해석을요구한다는 점을 드러낸다. 또 다른 시선은 아리랑의 탈영토성과 이질성이 국민서사를 오히려 확장하는 긍정적 기능을 보여준다. 디아스포라의 이질성과 혼종성은 그 자체로 새로운 아리랑의 창조성을 증명하는 것으로 포괄된다. 결론에서는 아리랑디아스포라서사를 통해 한민족 정체성이 기반을 둔 근대적 국민서사의 한계를 조명하고 대안적 가능성을 고찰했다.

This article analyzed and highlighted the narrative of the documentary film on how Arirang - Diaspora narrative has been unfolding since Arirang was listed as a UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage Site in 2012. Specific analysis works are Sound of Nomad: Koryo Arirang (2016) and Song of Diaspora: Arirang Road (2019). These two works are meaningful in that they are based on the existing Korean diaspora narrative, but can also look at the generational changes in the current diaspora society and the heterogeneous identity and emotional structure that arise from them. This paper discussed two perspectives that interpret and translate Arirang’s deterritoriality, which is being reproduced in these two works. One restores the stories of female subjects in the socialist context that have been suppressed in the ArirangDiaspora narrative. Through this, it shows how national identity is mixed inside and outside the narratives of nation. The film reveals that Arirang’s hybridity cracks at the edge of the national narrative and demands a new interpretation. Another point of view shows that Arirang’s deterritoriality and heterogeneity play a positive role in expanding the national narrative. Thus heterogeneity and hybridity pertain to proving the creativity of the new Arirang in itself. In conclusion, through the ArirangDiaspora narrative, we tried to shed light on the limitations of modern national narratives based on Korean national identity and imagine alternative possibilities.
