This study aims to compare and analyze differences in the English listening assessment of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) following the introduction of criterion-referenced test, focusing on lexical scales, lexical variations, word difficulty, and high frequency content words. For this analysis, CSAT English listening passages from 2015-2020 were collected. Then the passages were organized into six text files, and analyzed by AntConc 3.5.8, AntWord Profiler 1.4.0, and WordSmith 7.0. Results showed that, since the introduction of criterion-referenced test in 2018, there has been a slight decrease in the number of lexical scales and types and lexical diversity compared to the three years prior to the change in test method. The characteristics of high frequency content words, particularly the high percentage of verbs and nouns, show that it is necessary to devote attention to teaching them to students. Accordingly, it is proposed that greater recognition should be given to the importance of high frequency content words for efficient CSAT English listening pedagogy. (163 words)
