Factors influencing attitudes toward the care of the dying in nursing students

목적 본 연구는 간호학과 2학년을 대상으로 삶의 의미, 죽음에 대한 태도, 임종간호 태도 정도를 파악하고 임종간호 태도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하고자 시행되었다. 방법 자료 수집 기간은 2020년 9월 1일부터 30일까지이며, G 광역시와 J도 소재 3개 간호대학생 180명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 자료 분석은 SPSS/WIN 24.0 프로그램을 이용하여 기술통계, one way-ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients와 다중 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 결과 본 연구에서 대상자의 삶의 의미는 142.17점(184점 만점), 죽음에 대한 태도는 2.74점(4점 만점), 임종간호 태도는 2.30점(4점 만점)으로 나타났다. 삶의 의미는 죽음에 대한 태도와(r=.27, p<.001)유의한 상관관계가 있었으며, 죽음에 대한 태도는 임종간호 태도와 유의한 상관관계를 보였다(r=.28, p<.001), 다중 회귀분석 결과, 간호대학생의 임종간호 태도에 영향을 미치는 요인은 전공 만족도(만족)(β=.34, p<.001), 죽음에 대한 태도(β=.25, p=.001) 순으로 나타났으며 모형의 설명력은 14% (F=8.03, p<.001)로 나타났다. 결론 따라서 간호대학생의 임종간호 태도 함양을 위해서는 긍정적인 삶의 의미와 죽음에 대한 태도를 고취할 수 있는 프로그램을 개발하고 이를 적용할 필요성이 있다.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among meaning in life, death attitude, and attitudes toward the care of the dying in nursing students and explain factors influencing attitudes toward the care of the dying. Methods The research participants were 180 nursing students at 3 universities located in Korea. Self-evaluation questionnaires were used to collect the data. Data was collected from September 1 to 30, 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with the SPSS 24.0 program. Results There were significant positive relationships between meaning in life and death attitude (r=.27, p<.001), and significant positive relationships between death attitude and attitudes toward the care of the dying (r=.28, p<.001). Factors influencing attitudes toward the care of the dying were identified as satisfaction on major (satisfied) (β=.34, p<.001), death attitude (β=.25, p<.001). The explanation power of this model was 14% and it was statistically significant (F=8.29, p<.001). Conclusions These findings suggest that the terminal care education program, including meaning in life, and attitudes on death are necessary to enhance the positive attitudes on terminal care among nursing students.
