1980-90년대 민주시민교육 담론 고찰

A Study on the Discussion of Democratic Citizenship Education in the 1980-90s

Korea has witnessed the historic change in the 1980s and 1990s called democratization helped by the May 18 democratization movement and the June 10 uprising. However, the division of the opposition party loosened the thoroughgoing change from the authoritarian system to the democratic one emphasizing citizenship education. This essay studies the phase of this transitional period when the gradual change of society happened but came into conflict with the conservative people. I separate the 1980s and the 1990s and explain the former around the Social Education Law, President Chun Duwhan regime established and the latter around the Lifelong Education Law. Through the analysis, it is found that the institutionalization of the democratic citizenship education has been thwarted, producing other regulations. In that the democratic citizenship education means the methodological utility of constructing community spirit, not by coaxing or enforcing the people into an ideology, this study should affect more discourse about the Korean politics
