湖南地域前期無文土器文化의 實體와 展開

The true nature and the development of the early plain coarse pottery in the Honam region

지금까지 호남지역 전기무문토기 연구는 해당지역에서 가락동유형 및 역삼동·흔암리유형이 복합되는 양상이 나타난다는 점에 의견이 모아지고 있다. 그러나 복합적 양상을 만들어낸 주민집단의 실체가 무엇이고, 양 유형 집단 간의 관계가 어떻게 전개되는지에 대한 검토가 미진하다. 본고는 이러한 한계점을 극복하기 위해 호남지역 전기무문토기문화의 분포상과 특징, 편년을 실마리로 하여 가락동유형 및 역삼동·흔암리유형의 유입과 전개과정을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 호남지역 전기무문토기문화를 4단계로 나눌 수 있었다. 1단계에 금강유역의 가락동유형이 만경강유역권에 먼저 유입되고, 2단계부터 남강유역의 역삼동·흔암리유형이 서남해안권으로 유입되며, 두 지역을 주축으로 3단계부터 영산강유역, 섬진강유역으로 파급되어 두 문화가 접변되는 양상이 나타남을 확인하였다. 이러한 복잡한 양상은 토착민의 수용이라는 측면, 호남지역이 노령산맥과 소백산맥이 만들어낸 지리적 경계에 따라 소지역권이 형성되고, 수계를 바탕으로 충청지역 및 영남의 제지역과 연결되는 지정학적 위치에 있기 때문으로 보았다. 즉 호남지역 전기무문토기문화는 금강유역의 가락동유형, 남강유역의 역삼동·흔암리유형과 돌대문토기문화, 남한강유역의 돌대문토기문화라는 주변지역 무문토기문화와의 개별적 지역관계를 바탕으로 형성 및 전개되었다. 이상으로 호남지역 전기무문토기문화는 주변지역과 끈임 없는 관계를 맺으며 토착 내부의 사정에 따라 다양하게 전개되는 개방적이고 복잡한 사회였음을 알 수 있고, 이어지는 송국리문화와 세형동검문화가 번성하는 밑거름이 되었다고 볼 수 있다.

The existing researches on the early plain coarse pottery of the Honam region agree to the opinion that a complex condition of Garak-dong type and Yeoksam-dong·Heunam-ri type appears in this area. However, there are insufficient reviews on the true nature of the groups of people who formed this complex condition, and also on the development of the relationship between the groups of both types. This paper examined the influx and the development procedures of the Garak-dong type and Yeoksam-dong·Heunam-ro type, with the distribution, characteristics and chronological records of the early plain coarse pottery from the Honam region as the clues, in order to overcome the aforementioned limitations. As a result, the early plain coarse pottery of the Honam region can be divided into 4 stages. In the first stage, the Garak-dong type of the Geum River basin initially flowed into the Mankyung River Basin area; then, in the second stage, the Yeoksam-dong·Heunam-ri type of the Nam River Basin starts flowing into the Southwest Coast area. In the third stage, with these two areas as the central points, it extended up to the Yeongsan River and the Seomjin River, where it was verified that these two cultures underwent progressive assimilation. This complex condition is seen to have been brought by the aspect of the acceptance of indigenous people, and the fact that Jeolla region is situated on a geopolitical location where a small easement is formed according to the geographical boundaries created by the Noryeong mountain range and the So-baek mountain range, and on a location where it is connected with the memorial areas of the Chung-cheong region and the Yeongnam region, based on the water system. Through this, it can be inferred that the early plain coarse pottery culture of the Honam region is not an evidence of a culturally underdeveloped region that merely accepted the influences of its surrounding cultures, but rather a proof of an open and complex society that constantly forms connections with its surrounding regions, and develops depending on the circumstances of the indigenous people.
