Two Stories of Mobility

The three essential elements of a person’s life, clothing, food, and shelter, are called “(in Korean) eui, sik, and ju.” However, there is one more important factor that changed the direction of human civilization. It is the concept of “(in Korean) tong”(通), meaning communication and mobility. In particular, in the 21st century, the rapid development of information and communication technologies and mobility technologies is accelerating social change. This paper is a record that the author personally jumped into the scene of change and experienced. Through experience in Internet commerce, food delivery, and personal hired driving, which are the biggest changes in Korean society in 2020, we explored the impact of technological changes on changes in human behavior. In particular, it could be seen that the pace of change is accelerating and irreversible due to the overlap of the Covid-19 incident in 2020. The author argues that social attention and discussion are needed on the change of mobility to change not only communication methods but also basic survival environments such as jobs.
