무문토기시대 마제석촉 형식 변화 요인에 대한 검토

A Study on the Formal Change of Stone Arrowheads in the Mumun Pottery Period

무문토기시대 마제석촉에 대해서는 지금까지 많은 연구가 이루어져 왔지만, 그 연구 경향은 형식 분류와 각 형식의 시기적, 지역적 양상의 파악에 치중되어 왔다. 최근 이러한 단순 양상 파악에서 벗어나 기능 또는 환경에서 형식 변화의 요인을 찾는 연구가 시도되고있다는 점은 매우 고무적이다. 본고에서는 이러한 선행연구를 포함해 석촉 형식 변화의 요인을 문화 확산 과정에서 찾고자 하였다. 우선 촉신과 화살대의 장착 방식을 기준으로 화살대를 목시와 죽시로 구분한 후, 화살대 재료의 식생권과 실제 석촉의 분포가 대응하는지를 검토하였다. 무문토기시대 중기에 들어서면 적어도 호서지방 중 해안지역에서는 대나무에 삽입하기 쉬운 능형 일단유경석촉이 증가하며 내륙지역에서도 일단경촉으로 변화하지만, 경부는 오히려 비삽입식의 형태로 변하고 다수를 차지하게 된다. 이렇듯 비삽입식의 일단경촉이 증가하는 것은 대나무가 자라지 않는다는 환경적 요인에 의하지만, 전기와는 전혀 다른 일단경촉의 확산이라는 것은 결국 송국리문화의 급격한 확산에 따른 전면적 수용에 의한 것으로 해석할 수 있을 것이다. 즉 호서지방의 석촉 형식 변화는 문화의 급속한 확산, 전면적 수용 방식과 재지의 환경적 요인 이 모두에 의해 결정되었다고 볼 수 있는 것이다.

In the research of prehistoric stone tools, polished stone arrowheads are a basic material, on which many studies have been carried out up to the present. For the most part, however, research trends have focused on the type classification and understanding of temporal, regional aspects. Recent studies are overcoming such trends and specifically examine the causes of types of change, while new research trends search for the causes as functions or environmental factors. But changes in material culture, function, or environmental factors do not constitute absolute cause. Especially, those stages that show rapid social change and spread of culture, such as the transition period from the early to middle Mumun pottery period, and other factors also play important roles in the diffusion and acceptance of material culture. The typical feature of change in polished stone-arrowheads in the Hoseo district in the Mumun pottery period is the increase of the diamond-shaped cross section in one-step stone arrowheads. However, this feature is not associated with any function of the arrowheads, and reflects changes that resulted in an inefficient mounting method of the arrowheads on an arrow shaft. So this process of change must be understood as one of the results of rapid diffusion and localization of Songgukri Culture.
