피에르 뒤부아의『성지수복론』(c.1306)에 나타난 ‘기독교세계의 평화

본 논문은 프랑스 국왕 법률가인 피에르 뒤부아가 1306년경 저술한 『성지수복론』에 나타난 새로운 기독교세계의 국제질서의 이상을 소개하고 그역사적 의미를 유럽적 정체성의 형성과 관련하여 검토하는 것을 목적으로한다. 이 저서에서 피에르 뒤부아는 십자군이라는 기독교세계 전체의 이상을 프랑스의 국익과 연결시키고 있다. 이는 보다 구체적으로 종교적 권위를내세우고 있는 교황을 중심으로 한 중세사회의 보편적 통일성론과 전면적으로 배치된다. 그는 기독교세계의 통일성과 단일성이 아닌 서로 다른 지역의인민들이 발전시킨 개별 정치공동체들(왕국, 제후국, 도시국가들)을 인정하고 이들 사이의 연방제를 주장하는 한편, 이러한 세력들을 십자군으로 규합해서 이끄는 지도권을 프랑스왕에게 부여해야 한다는 국가주의적 패권주의를 피력한다. 이는 중세적인 기독교세계에서 근대적인 국가체제들로 이행하는 커다란 흐름을 예견하면서 동시에 국가주의와 유럽세계 통합 사이에 가로지르는 강한 긴장관계를 선취하고 있다. 다른 한편 그가 파악하고 있는 현실에 대한 전망은 충분히 유럽적인 차원을 보여주고 있다.

This article aims to introduce the idea on a new international relationship of theChristendom presented in the De recuperatione de terre sancte written by Pierre Dubois,french royal legist, in 1306. It examines also the historical meaning of Pierre Dubois swork in perspective of European identity formation. In this book, Pierre Duboisexplains the crusade expedition, traditionally ideal of the universal christian world, asan national interest of the French kingdom. This attitude is in contrast with theuniversal unity in Middle Ages insisted by the religious authority around the papacy. According to his argument, instead of an universal unity of the Christendom, it isnecessary to admit de facto various political entities, for examples divers kingdom,principalities and city-states, developed in different countries people and their federation . And he expresses a nationalistic hegemony, that this federation has tobecome a base for a new crusade expedition of which the leader is the Frenchkingship. His idea foresees the mainstream of transition from the Medievalchristendom to the Modern inter-states system, as well as a through-going tensionbetween the nationalism and the European federation. On the other hand, it is worthestimating that his perspective on the contemporary political realities is based oneuropean identity.
