금강중류 남부 송국리유형 상한 재고

Re-examination of the Songgungni Assemblage s Upper Date in the Southern Part of the Midstream of the Gum River Basin

송국리유형은 남한 청동기시대 전기와 중기 구분의 지표이자 본격적인 복합사회의 등장과 관련된 물질자료로서 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 송국리유형의 등장과정에 대해서는 외부유입설과 내부자생설이 대립하고 있다. 이 두 입장 사이의 간극을 좁혀보기 위한 하나의 시도로서, 본고에서는 송국리유형 외부유입설과 내부자생설에 대한 기존의 여러 견해들을 비판적으로 검토하면서, 송국리유형의 핵심권임에도 불구하고 송국리유형 등장과정에 대한 기존 연구에서 소홀히 취급된 금강중류 남부 송국리유형 유적들의 편년 특히 그 상한을 재검토해보고자 한다. 이를 위해, 먼저 층위적 기록 및 유물이나 유구의 형식에 기반하여 전기 후반부터의 점유 가능성이 제기되어 온 송국리유적의 형성과정을 재검토한다. 다음 기존 연구에서 상대적으로 간과되어 온 이 지역 송국리유형 유적들의 절대연대 측정치와 송국리형 무덤들도 편년 기준 및 대상으로 포함하여, 이 지역 송국리유형 유적들 서로간의 구체적인 시간적 위치를 고찰해 본다. 이를 통해, 송국리유형 내부자생설 지지자들이 가락동유형권 또는 역삼동유형권에서 선/송국리유형 일부가 등장한 시기라고 주장하는 전기 후반에, 금강중류 남부지역은 공백지대로 남아 있었던 것이 아니라, 이 지역에서도 송국리유적 및 그 주변 유적들을 중심으로 하여 유구경식 비파형동검 및 송국리형 무덤과 같은 송국리유형 요소가 일부 출현하였고 새로운 수준의 노동력 조직을 필요로 하는 대규모 토목공사인 대지평탄화 작업이 진행되고 있었을 가능성을 제시한다.

In Korean Bronze Age archaeology the Songgungni assemblage is important. It demarcates the Early Bronze Age (EBA) and the Middle Bronze Age (MBA). It is also associated with a sudden increase in social complexity. As for the formation process of the Songgungni assemblage, there are two conflicting hypotheses. One is that the Songgungni assemblage developed from EBA assemblages, most likely in the Gum River basin. The other is that the Songgungni assemblage was introduced from somewhere outside the basin. However, none of the two positions has paid enough attention to the southern part of the midstream of the basin, the research region of this paper, where Songgungni-type materials are most densely clustered in the basin. Since EBA-type materials are rarely found in the research region, this area has been regarded as ‘no-man’s land’ in the EBA in previous studies. In opposition to these tendencies, this paper re-examines absolute- and relative-dating results of Songgungni-type sites in this area. For that purpose, diverse kinds of materials, not just typical Songgungi-type ones, from the sites are compared. As a result, it is found that at least part of the Songgungni assemblage in this area appeared in the late EBA. On the basis of this, it is argued that we should pay more attention to this area in order to establish a reliable chronology for the emergence of the Songgungni assemblage in the Gum River basin.
