A Study on the Gentile Mission in the Q Community

This study aims to identify the Jewish disposition of the Q community shown in Q, and to clarify the Q community s attitude toward missionary to the Gentiles in relation to its nature. The Q community has a very similar character to the Matthew Gospel community, has a Jewish identity, and takes a very conservative position in observing the law. Nevertheless, in Q, which is the basis of the Q community, there are several texts about the Gentile mission. In particular, although Q does not directly mention the Gentile mission, there are texts that remind us of the Gentile mission as important. This paper focuses on arranging the relationship between these two different personalities. To this end, the characteristics of the Q community are first arranged, and then the internal factors (the teaching of the risen and ascended Jesus) and the external factors (the Jerusalem persecution and the Jewish war) are explained from what background the Gentile mission, which are contrary to the characteristics of the Q community, appeared. ) will be divided. The Q text (Q 10:13-15; 11:31-32; 13:29, 28; 14:21, 23), which deals with the Gentile mission, although the contents of the Gentile mission are not directly revealed. Q We will look at how to interpret it under the nature of the community. In addition to this, by examining the Q texts that directly mentioned Gentiles (Q 7:1-10; Q 7:31; Q 12:30), we will confirm that Q s position on the Gentile mission is the same. In conclusion, I would like to explain to the Q community, who valued and emphasized the Jewish mission, that the Gentile mission was understood as an eschatological interpretation, but did not directly carry out the Gentile mission.
