Spanish Listening Skills Improvement by the Image-based Prediction

Listening comprehension is the most important and urgent communication skill in the educational field of the foreign language. To improve it, we have proposed to provide a new listening ability in Spanish through the schema and images related to the content prepared by the teachers. From this cognitive approach, it is expected that using the scheme learners can predict, extract and interpret ideas and main themes about the given content, based on the contexts and information contained in the images. According to our approach, listening through images related to content will help Spanish students to improve their listening comprehension both in the classroom and in everyday life. Based on this premise, we have planned an experimental research aimed at quantitatively as well as qualitatively evaluating the activities of students in the semester course of a university. Thus, our study may constitute a new approach to listening comprehension in Spanish for Korean students.
