이 글은 손소희의 첫 장편소설 『태양의 계곡』의 중심인물인 ‘정아’와 ‘지희’가 대조적으로 재현하고 있는 전후 여성이미지의 의미를 분석하고,소설의 이면적 서사에 은폐되어 있는 여성적 욕망과 가부장적 사회에 대한 저항의 표상을 발견하고 그 의미를해석하는 것을 목적으로 한다.엘렌 식수와 뤼스 이리가레는 남성적 상징질서에서 배제되어 왔던 여성의 상징체계를 발견하고 복원하는 방법으로 ‘여성적 글쓰기’를 제안한다.남근로고스 중심주의의 언어체계에서 ‘존재하지만 표현될 수 없었던’ 여성의욕망과 무의식은 표면 서사에 가려져 있는 이면적 의미를 복원하고 해석해내는 ‘양피지적 독법’에 의해 포착될 수 있다. 성적 방종과 일탈을 일삼는 ‘정아’는 가부장적 사회에서 허용되지 않는 섹슈얼리티의 실천을 통해 가부장적 윤리규범을 교란시키고 남성적 권위를 향해 조롱과 복수의감정을 표출하는 인물이다.‘지희’는 정숙하고 결백한 태도를 보이는 가부장적 여성상의 전형이지만,자신의 의지를 포기한 채 절망적 자학의 심정으로 스스로를 방기하는 내면을 감추고 있다.아프레 걸과 정숙한 미망인이라는 대조적 두 인물은 각자의행실에 대한 서사적 보상이 뒤바뀐 결말을 보여준다.손소희의 『태양의 계곡』은 전후혼란기를 배경으로 여성의 성과 사랑,결혼의 윤리를 새롭게 제시하여 가부장적 상징질서에 균열을 시도한다.비록 표면적 서사는 여성 욕망의 좌절로 귀결되는 것처럼보이지만,성녀와 악녀의 구분이 모호하게 그려지고 남성적 권위의 허구성을 폭로한다는 점에서 손소희 소설의 페미니즘적 가치를 발견할 수 있다.

Son So-hee’s novel “The Valley of the Sun”, depicting the senses of love, anguish, and sexuality of two women, “Jung-A” and “Ji-Hee” against the backdrop of the Korean War, delicately depicts the lives and mental states of postwar women. In this novel, “Jung-A” is a person who has cultivated the behavior of “Apre-girl”, The novel depicts the complicated psychological situation of unmarried women of the day who do not display the “Apre-girl” alone. In this article, we examine how female sexuality is revealed in the special conditions of the postwar era by analyzing female characters in Son So-hee’s novel “The Valley of the Sun”.
