Teaching Methods for Reading Classics and Writing Reviews to Improve Communication Competence: A Case Study of the “Classic Reading Seminar”

본 글은 대학생핵심역량진단 평가에서 의사소통 영역이 매년 최하위를 기록하고있는 가운데 고전독서 수업의 사례 분석을 통해 효과적인 읽기와 쓰기 교육 방안을강구하고자 하는 연구이다.“고전독서세미나”는 읽기-쓰기를 연계한 의사소통 통합교육으로,학생들의 역량과 수준을 고려하여 교수자 주도의 텍스트 읽기 후 학습자들이 독서보고서를 제출하는 수업 방식으로 설계되었다.읽기 교육은 교수자들의 전문적인 리뷰와 강독으로 텍스트에 대한 정확한 이해를 돕고,다각적인 논점과 해설로써 학습자들의 사고와 사유를 확장시키고자 했다.쓰기 교육은 학습자들이 스스로 논제를 세우고 대안을 창출하여 오레오맵 글쓰기 형식에 따라 논리정연한 전개가 이루어지도록 했다.첨삭지도를 통해 논리적이며 성찰적 글쓰기로 발전할 수 있도록 했으며,수업 종강 후 설문조사를 통해 학습자들의 수업만족도 및 수업성취도를 측정했다.그 결과를 분석하여 수업의 개선 방향 및 독서교육의 체계적인 트랙 구축의 필요성을 제기해 보았다.

On the basis of the “Classic Reading Seminar,” this paper suggests ways to manage a more efficient reading and writing class to improve the communication competency of college students continuously. The “Classic Reading Seminar” is designed as a teaching method that links together reading and writing, in which the learners submit review reports after reading texts instructed by the professors. The professors’ professional review helped students to read and understand the texts accurately and expand their reasoning by presenting various perspectives. The professors’ feedback facilitated students in developing their logical and reflective writing abilities. The Oreo map writing format helped the students set up their own topics first, organize their thoughts, and write their review reports. After the semester, a survey was conducted to ascertain class satisfaction and students’ perception of communication skills. Methods for improving the “Classic Reading Seminar” were suggested, and the need to build a systematic track for reading education was raised.
