발달장애인 언어재활 현장의 보완대체의사소통(AAC) 사용에 관한 반성적 성찰

Language Rehabilitation for People With Developmental Disabilities Reflection on The Use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC): From Pierre Bourdieu s Point of View of Linguistic Sociology

본 보고서는 의사소통 증진을 목표로 하는 발달재활 서비스 언어재활 현장에서 왜 보완대체의사소통(Augmentative and Alternative Communication, 이하 AAC)의 사용이 잘 고려되지 않는지에 대한 문제제기에서 출발했다. 연구자는 보다 본질적인 성찰과 반성을 위해 피에르 부르디외의 언어사회학 관점을 도입했으며, 부르디외의 대표 저서 ‘언어와 상징권력’을 중심으로 언어재활사와 언어재활을 받는 발달장애인 사이에 내재된 언어의 권력관계를 탐색했다. AAC의 사용이 잘 고려되지 않는 이유는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 언어재활사들은 특정한 패러다임에 기초해 발달장애인들을 바라보도록 훈련받는다. 둘째, 언어재활사와 발달장애인의 권력관계는 동등하지 않다. 셋째, 언어재활 현장에는 더 ‘올바른 언어’, 더 ‘올바른 의사소통’ 방식이 존재한다. 언어재활 현장에서의 언어란 그 자체로 순수하지 않으며, 언어행위에는 암묵적이며 무의식적인 언어권력이 존재한다. 구어의 정상성, 비구어의 비정상성이라는 특정한 패러다임에 기초한 훈련을 받은 언어재활사는 무의식적으로 구어의 정상성을 지향하고 강요하게 된다. 이를 바탕으로 연구자는 다음과 같이 제언한다. 첫째, 언어재활 현장에서 의사소통의 사회적 맥락을 살필 수 있는 장애학적 관점의 도입이 시급하다. 둘째, 언어재활사는 장애학적 관점의 도입을 통해 재활 이데올로기를 직면해야 하며, 언어재활이 전제하는 이상적 언어와 의사소통 방식에서 벗어나 AAC를 비롯한 다양한 방식의 의사소통을 수용할 수 있어야 한다.

This report started by questioning why the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication(AAC) is not well considered in the field of language rehabilitation in developmental rehabilitation services aimed at improving communication. Focusing on Bourdieu s representative book ‘Language and Symbolic Power’, I introduced Pierre Bourdieu s point of view on linguistic sociology, and explored the relationship between speech-language pathologists and people with developmental disabilities receiving the therapy, for more fundamental reflection. The reasons why AAC is seldom used are as follows: First, language rehabilitation practitioners are trained to look at people with developmental disabilities based on a specific paradigm. Second, the power relationship between the pathologists and developmental disabilities is not equal. Third, there are more ‘correct language’ and more ‘correct communication’ methods in the field. Language in the field of language rehabilitation is not pure in itself. Having reflected on these problems, I propose the following. First, it is urgent to introduce a language rehabilitation practice based on disability studies that can examine the social context of communication. Second, language rehabilitation personnel must face the ideology of rehabilitation through the introduction of disability studies, and be able to accommodate various types of communications outside of the communication prerequisites for the rehabilitation.
