Research on Characteristics of Golf Club Usage by Different Geographical Location : Comparing Golf Clubs in Kyeong-gi and Jeju Island

  • 2

Today, there are over five hundred golf clubs in Korea, where the market suffers from oversupply of fields, customer’s request to return club membership fee, declining number of customers, and diminishing profit margin for undue discount policy. The number of non-membership golf club with green fee 40,000~50,000 KRW less expensive yet with comparably superb facilities vis-à-vis membership golf club is rapidly increasing. Although a number of membership golf clubs have reduced green fee or changed their policy allowing non-members to use the fields during the early morning of weekdays as the booking rate during this time is low, their efforts fall far short from producing a desirable outcome because of high tax rate. As the number and quality of golf clubs increases, users are granted with more choice inevitably producing fierce competition among the clubs. It is necessary to analyze the user’s level of satisfaction with a club pursuant to distance, quality and cost, and to propose an optimal solution to the clubs by their considering geographical characteristics. This research contains a survey for golf club users in Kyeong-gi Province and Jeju Island of Korea, examining the status and characteristic of their use of the club.
