The results of analysis on perceptions of residential facilities for the elderly are as follows. First, all respondents demonstrated a preference for apartment-style residential housing even after retirement. Second, respondents showed a preference toward living in Seoul/the metropolitan area or in a nearby rural area, indicating a desire to reside independently in close proximity to their children. Third, most respondents showed a preference for rural housing, while female respondents demonstrated a preference for apartments. Fourth, it was shown that larger floor area of current apartment correlated with a preference toward residing in Seoul/metropolitan area. Fifth, it was shown that those presently residing in apartments desired to maintain an independent residence close to their children. Sixth, female respondents over the age of 60 had the greatest level of interest in elderly residential facilities, while those between 51-60 showed the most inclination to relocate to such a facility. Seventh, it was found that the ideal personal living space for elderly residential facilities was less than 11-15 pyeong (3.3 m2).
