  • 3

This study aims to verify factors that affect residential environment satisfaction and residential settlement in industrial complex-neighboring areas. Particularly, this study examined determinants of residential environment satisfaction and residential settlement by voluntary residential mobility and involuntary residential mobility in industrial complex-neighboring areas, while exploring the effect of community likability and attachment on residential settlement and intention to recommend. The indicators of residential environment satisfaction were composed of location, convenience, economic feasibility, sociality, neighborhood environment and industrial environment, and this study established such mediators as community likability and attachment in order to verify the correlation between inclination to settle down and intention to recommend. Then, this study analyzed the structural equation model for valid samples from the survey data, and the results can be summarized as below. Firstly, it was analyzed that factors affecting residential environment satisfaction were location, sociability and neighborhood environment, while satisfaction had effect on inclination to settle down and intention to recommend. Besides, the voluntary-mobility group was affected by location, sociality, neighborhood environment and industrial environment, and satisfaction with voluntary mobility affected inclination to settle down and intention to recommend. On the contrary, in the involuntary-mobility group, neighborhood environment affected satisfaction, but it was found that satisfaction had no effect on inclination to settle down and intention to recommend. As a result, this study discovered that there were differences in the correlation between the two groups. It was also found that community likability and attachment affected inclination to settle down and intention to recommend. In the voluntary-mobility group, community likability had no effect on inclination to settle down, but in the involuntary-mobility group, community likability and attachment affected inclination to settle down and intention to recommend, which indicates there were differences in the correlation between the two groups. Based on the results above, this study arranged the following implications. Firstly, it is necessary to prepare practical and systematic measures for the industrial environment. Secondly, in order to establish a pleasant and sustainable residential environment for neighboring areas, it is required to manage the neighborhood environment systematically. Thirdly, it is needed to prepare support policies that can help create jobs in local areas and secure residential infrastructures for stable residence and life. Lastly, various programs should be made to help residents build a sense of belonging to their community, self-esteem and emotional bond among them so that the function of resident participation can be enhanced. At the same time, by raising community consciousness on local issues and community likability and attachment, it is necessary to focus all the administrative capabilities in order to induce residential settlement and improve intention to recommend.
