Rembrandt Teaches the Bible: Literacy Criticism and the Biblical Teaching which are Discovered in Rembrandt’s Biblical Paintings

이 연구는 렘브란트의 성서화에 내재되어 있는 성서해석과 성서교육의 상관관계성을 탐구한다. 렘브란트가 성서의 이야기들을 주제로 그린 대표적인 작품들을 분석하면서 그의 성서화가 담고 있는 문학비평적 성서해석과 드라마틱한 성서교육의 특성을 다음과 같이 셋으로 구분한다. 첫째 렘브란트의 성서화를 이야기비평의 관점에서 분석하고, 렘브란트가 명암대조법을 사용하여 등장인물들을 비교하고 대조하여 드라마틱한 성서교육을 지향하고 있다고 주장한다. 둘째 독자반응비평에 따라 성서를 해석하고 있는 렘브란트 성서화는 학습자의 주도적이고 감각적인 교육을 유도한다고 주장한다. 셋째 렘브란트의 성서화를 교육비평의 관점에서 분석하면서 그의 성서화가 관람자의 내면적 성찰과 결단을 유도하고 있다고 주장한다. 마지막으로 이 연구는 블레어(Blair)의 다섯 Rs 성서교수학습모델에 기초하여 렘브란트 성서화를 활용한 드라마틱한 성서 교수학습 과정을 소개한다.

This study examines the relationship between the Biblical inter-pretation and the Biblical teaching in Rembrandt’s Biblical paintings. This study asserts that Rembrandt interprets the Bible in terms of literacy criticism and dramatically teaches the Bible through his Biblical paintings. First, this study analyzes his Biblical paintings in terms of the narrative criticism. His Biblical paintings dramatically and imaginatively teach people Biblical stories through chiaroscuro(contrast between light and dark-ness), that contrasts characters of two groups. Second, this study insists that Rembrandt uses the reader-response criticism as a form of Biblical interpretation. Rembrandt teaches people how to imagine and feel the Biblical stories through his Biblical paintings. Third, this study interprets Rembrandt’s Biblical paintings as an educational criticism. His Biblical paintings help people critically reflect on their lives and make decisions for their future. Finally, this study introduces Biblical teaching and learning on the basis of the “Five Rs (Remembering, Revisiting the text, Reflecting critically, Reinterpreting, Response)” that Blair suggests in his book, “the art of teaching the Bible.” This enables learners to interpret and learn Biblical stories in a sub-jective, imaginative, sensible way by using Rembrandt’s Biblical paintings.
