고령화 한국 사회와 교회 노인교육의 복지적 접근 및 과제

Aging Korean Society and a Welfare Approach to Church Senior Education

오늘날 한국 사회는 이전에는 경험해 보지 못한 고령사회 및 초고령 사회로의 진입을 앞두면서 개인 및 사회가 긴 노년기에 직면하고 있음에도 불구하고 이에 대한 우리 사회의 대비와 대안들은 여전히 미흡한 실정이다. 적잖은 지금의 노인들은 자신의 노후준비를 해둘 여유가 없었기에 그로인해 파생되는 노인문제는 더욱 심각한 우리사회의 해결과제로 대두되고 있다. 대안 없이 ‘적체되는 노년’으로 인한 사회적 비용은 가중되고 있으며, 사적 ․ 공적 차원의 노인부양에 대한 도덕윤리는 무너지고 있다. 기독교적 관점에서 하나님의 은총의 성취로서의 장수, 즉 평균수명의 연장이 우리 사회와 가족에게 마냥 축복일 수만은 없는 상황이 된 것이다. 한국 사회의 노인문제는 곧 한국교회의 현재와 미래의 노인사역의 문제이기도 하기에, 노인들을 위한 교회 신앙교육의 사회 복지적 접근은 그들 삶의 현실과 신앙이 성숙과 통합에 이르는 기회를 제공하는 의미 있는 한 방편이 될 수 있다는 면에서 결코 간과할 수 없는 교회의 관심사가 되어야 한다. 이런 의미에서 교회는 복지적 차원에서 노인문제에 대한 개념을 바로 정립하여, 그에 따른 체계적인 교육과 프로그램 개발에 관심을 가지고, 고령화되어 가는 세대에서 나타나는 노인의 문제해결에 있어서 책임 있는 한 주체로서 그 역할을 다해야 할 것이다. 본 연구는 지역사회에 위치한 교회가 노인세대의 신앙교육문제를 복지적 차원에서 조명하여 볼 필요성을 인지하며, 먼저 한국 사회의 노인관련 복지실태를 살펴보면서 그들이 당면한 문제가 탐색하여 보았다. 그리고 기독교교육적 측면에서 교회의 물적 ․ 인적 자원들을 활용한 교회 노인교육의 복지적 접근 및 실천 가능성을 모색하여 보았다.

This study explores a number of potential avenues to address the problems commonly associated with church elderly through church senior education. Korea has already become an ‘aging society’ in 2000 with 7.2% of the aged populace being older than 65. With its speedy aging rate, Korea is expected to be an ‘aged society’ with a 14.3% over-65 rate in 2018, and a ‘super-aged society’ of 20.8% in 2026. The life spans of the elderly are get-ting longer, and welfare demands are becoming more varied and complicated. Consequently, the problems of the elderly grow in importance as a social phenomenon. Korean society has witnessed the growing spread of serious social problems re-lated to age such as disease, poverty, loss of roles, and solitude and isolation, problems exacerbated by rapid social change caused by the development of the nuclear family, industrializa-tion, and urbanization. The problems of the aged are beyond the scope of the individual or the family, but increasingly should be addressed by the community and national government. It should be noted, however, that the Korean social security system has not yet fully developed to deal with these problems properly. Based on these concerns, this study first examines the problem of the elderly and goes on to discuss the need of senior educa-tion in relation to social welfare in the church and considers what possible benefits are obtained by this senior education in aging society.
