This paper proposes a novel technique to control the maximum demand for factories and buildings systematically. The proposed method divides the time period for estimating the maximum demand into small and equal intervals. Given the maximum demand control goal, the average power that can be consumed during each interval is estimated and allocated to that interval. The expected values and standard deviation are estimated from all the random load changes. These values are used to estimate the load that must be reduced from or added to the beginning of the last time interval to provide a safe margin and to reduce the probability of exceeding the maximum demand goal during the last interval below the set value. The proposed technique provides the explicit time and load amount to be managed during the maximum demand control period, thereby enabling stable and safe control of the maximum demand.
