This study reviewed the current status of translation education in the Korean language education major curriculum whose aim is to cultivate Korean language teachers. It also sought the optimal way to conduct translation education for Korean language teachers. Translation education in Korean language education is necessary in two aspects: teaching professional translation to improve translation skills and teaching pedagogic translation to improve Korean communication skills. However, the Korean language education major programs do not provide any training for prospective Korean language teachers to develop their translation teaching skills. Thus, this study proposed five directions to lay the foundation for translation education for Korean language teachers.: (1) balance between translation theory and translation education theory, (2) compatibility of teaching pedagogic translation and teaching professional translation, (3) diversification of teaching methods and areas to which translation education is applied, (4) balance between knowledge and practice, and (5) interdisciplinary collaboration and inter-subject integration.
