ICT기기 사용유형에 따른 고령자의 삶의 만족도

ICT Usage Type and Life Satisfaction among the Elderly: Comparison by Cohabitant Status

본 연구는 ICT기기의 사용여부와 사용시간량이 고령자의 삶의 만족도에 끼치는 영향을 경험적으로 살펴보는 것에 목적을 두고 있다. 최근의 많은 연구들은 ICT기기가 고령자에게 사회적 지지, 도구적 지지를 제공해주며 삶의 만족도 증진에 도움을 줄 수 있음을 주장한다. 하지만 기존의 연구들은 ICT기기 사용을 일괄적으로 다뤄왔거나 단편적인 부분들만을 살펴봤다는 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위해 ICT기기 사용여부뿐만 아니라 구체적인 사용시간량을 함께 살펴보았다. 또한 ICT기기 사용유형을 사회적 ICT기기 사용과 도구적 ICT기기 사용으로 나누고, 사용자 집단을 가구구성형태에 따라 구분하여 연구를 진행했다. 연구를 위해 통계청의 2019 생활시간조사자료를 활용하였으며, 65세 이상 응답자 5,654명을 대상으로 일반화된 순서형 로지스틱 분석을 실시했다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ICT기기의 사용은 고령자의 삶의 만족도와 긍정적인 관계를 가지고 있으며, ICT기기를 사용하는 시간이 많아질수록 고령자의 삶의 만족도는 높아지는 경향을 보인다. 둘째, 1인가구 고령자에게는 사회적 ICT기기 사용이 삶의 만족도와 긍정적인 관계를 가지고 있으며, 2인 이상 가구 고령자에게는 도구적 ICT기기 사용이 삶의 만족도와 긍정적인 관계를 가진다. 고령자를 대상으로 한 정보화 교육이나 프로그램은 고령자의 삶의 만족도 증진에 도움을 줄 것으로 보인다. 하지만 전체 고령자에게 일괄적으로 적용되는 프로그램보다는 고령자의 가구구성에 따른, 사회적 지지와 도구적 지지 사이의 균형을 고려한 맞춤형 프로그램의 개발이 필요하다.

The purpose of this research is to report how the use of ICT devices can affect the life satisfaction of the elderly. Using nationally representative time-diary data from the 2019 Korean Time Use Survey, I explored 5,654 respondents who are over 65 years old. In addition to user and non-user concept, this study focuses on the exact time amount on ICT devices and its effect on the elderly’s life satisfaction. Moreover, the usage of ICT devices can be divided into two types: social ICT usage and instrumental ICT usage. I compare how each type affects the life satisfaction of the elderly with different cohabitant status. The analysis results are as follows: first, ICT users reported higher life satisfaction than non-ICT users. The amount of time on ICT devices showed a positive relation with the elderly’s life satisfaction. Second, for the elderly who live alone, social ICT usage helped improve their life satisfaction. For the elderly who live with others, instrumental ICT usage was helpful. These results emphasize the importance of informatization policies for older adults. However, informatization policies would be more effective if they consider individuals’ cohabitant status and their needs for social and instrumental support.
