The purpose of this paper is to examine the core competencies required to form a whole person by classifying them into individual factors and social factors, this is to derive the universality of confucianism s competency. The essence of the competency concept examined in this paper is summarized as follows. First, confucianism s competency is the concept of the whole. Individual competency is a concept of the whole that combines power to know the virtue, power to do self-cultivation, and power to practice the virtue. Like individual competencies, social competencies are the concept of the whole. Social competence is a combination of the real ability to communicate based on personality, the real ability to inherit the culture, and the real ability to contribute to the community. Second, confucianism s competency is a complex concept. Competency as a condition of becoming a whole person is a complex concept in which individual and social dimensions are combined into one.
