A Study on the Aspects and Factors of Internal Migration in Mongolia: Focusing on Labor Force Survey 2010, 2012, 2014

The National Statistics Office notes that since the turn of the century an average of 103,000 Mongolians have been involved in some form of internal migration annually. The purpose of this study is to explore the aspects of internal migration of the population of Mongolia, and factors which affect participation of the population in internal migration. To this end, we analyzed data from Labor Force Survey in 2010, 2012, and 2014 and population housing census from 2000 and 2010, both conducted by the National Statistical Office. As a result, most migrants participated in the movement of city → city and country → city , whose destinations are city , and were economic migrants who moved because of job search and so on. The socioeconomic characteristics of migrants, especially education, marital status, and employment status, had a significant impact on population movement. This study is meaningful in that it examined the population movement of Mongolia based on actual survey data.
