Some Issues on Fortresses at Hanseung(漢城) Capital Period in Baekje Kingdom

  • 40

The first capital in Baegje Kingdom(BC18~AD660) was named Hanseung. Capital Hanseung lasted to AD475, located at southern ashore of Han River near central Seoul. Now at there two main ruined fortresses are. One is Pungnap, another named Mongchon. Both have earthen wall. Someone says “at the time of Hanseung capital, Baekje Kingdom hadn t make stone fortress wall”, Others argue “Archeological articles improove, earlier than late 5 century, stone wall appeared in near central or borderline of Baekje Kingdom”. After Hanseug period named Wungjin(熊津) period, Contemporaneity Silla was construct stone wall, and after 6 century stone articles shows gadded man s names and grade of stone master or stone artist. In compilation article wrote construct solid earthen bank and wall, get stone and made stone tombs in middle 5 century, and at Pungnap fortress wall had some stone made inner sub-wall, therefor I conform to the time of appear stone walled fortress in Baekje Kingdom is late Hanseung period. The discussion add special style at the out shape of gate. Many of fortresses have enclosed circle gateway style in Baekje Kingdom, it has not been knew at Silla Kingdom s region.
