The Relations between Baekje Area and Jaan from 4th to 6th Centuries

4~6세기 백제지역과 일본열도의 관계를 알 수 있는 유물로는 여러 가지 금속유물과 토기들이 있다. 특히 백제지역내에서도 영산강유역은 일본열도와 관련되는 자료가 상당히 많은데 유물뿐 아니라 墳丘나 石室墓 등에서도 나타나고 있다. 본고에서는 이 시기의 백제지역, 그 중에서도 영산강유역을 중심으로 하여 일본열도와의 관계에 대하여 살펴보았는데 대상 자료는 주로 유물에 한정하였다. 백제와 일본열도의 倭의 관계는 5세기부터 본격화되는데 일본열도에서도 畿內 지역에 영산강유역의 마한이나 백제계 토기가 많이 분포하고 있는 점이 주목된다. 특히 5세기 후엽 ~6세기 전엽에는 백제지역과 일본열도 사이에 활발한 교섭이 이루어지고 그 과정에서 영산강유역의 역할이 상당히 컸던 것으로 이해된다. 이는 영산강유역에 倭系의 장고분이 축조되는 것이나 점차 다양한 위세품들이 무덤에 부장되는 점에서 뒷받침된다. 고고학적 자료로는 잘 드러나지 않지만 6세기 중엽(泗沘期) 이후에도 백제와 왜의 교류는 지속되는데 이 시기에는 영산강유역의 다시일대 세력이 백제의 대왜교섭에서 상당히 중요한 역할을 한 것으로 추정된다.

The relations between Baekje area and Japan from 4th to 6th centuries can be found in many metallic artifacts and pottery. A lot of data related to Japan are found in artifacts, mound tombs, and stone chamber with side entrance specifically around Yeongsan River Valley among many other areas in Baekje. In this paper, the relations between Baekje area, mainly Yeongsan River Valley, and Japan at this time is discussed and subject data is limited mostly to artifacts. In 5th century, the relationship of Baekje and Wo(倭) was regularized. It is interesting to note that pottery of Mahan origin of Yeongsan River Valley or Baekje origin is found in Kinai(畿內) area, Japan. Specifically from the late 5th to the early 6th century were the time when Baekje and Japan had active interchange and negotiation. Yeongsan River Valley seems to have taken the large part in this process with the discovery of keyhole shaped mound tombs of Japanese style built in Yeongsan river valley and as time went by, various prestige goods buried in tombs. Though not well revealed through the archeological data, Baekje area Japan relations continued even after the mid 6th century, the Sabi period of Baekje. It is presumed that Dasi(多侍) region force played important role in diplomatic relationship between Baekje and Japan during this period of time.
