(Purpose) National crises such as epidemics like COVD-19 require strong government policies to address challenging health disparities and protect the entire population, as well as transparent communication with citizens to inform these policies and obtain public support. (Design/methodology/approach) This study used the public perception survey regarding the government s Safe Band policy related to self-isolation related to COVID-19 conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in April 2020, commissioned by Korea Research. Utilizing multiple regression analysis, factors indicating the degree of social vulnerability, such as gender, age, education, social class, residential area, and occupation, were analyzed to determine how they affect an individual s perception of the severity of the spread of COVID-19 and the possibility of infection. (Findings) According to the results, it was found that gender, age and region of residence affect the severity of the spread of COVID-19, and differences in age, social class, region of residence and occupation significantly affect the likelihood of infection with COVID-19. (Research implications or Originality) These results show the implication that various policies that the government is promoting to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and intends to pursue in the future should be implemented based on citizens awareness of the seriousness of the spread of COVID-19 and the possibility of infection.
