Structural Relationships Between 20-50s Women s Self-image, Self-esteem, and Psychological Well-being

The purpose of this study is to study the structural relationships between women s self-image, self-esteem, and psychological well-being, and to suggest ways to improve women s psychological well-being. To this end, a summary of the results of a study on 215 women in their 20s and 50s residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi is as follows. First, self-image was classified into natural, intellectual, sensual, cute, luxurious, active, and homely categories using a total of 7 variables. Self-esteem and psychological well-being were determined with single variables. Second, among the self-image categories, the intellectual image was the most common, followed by natural/assuming, cute, active, luxurious, and sensual, but the domestic image less common. Self-esteem and psychological well-being were somewhat higher as well. Third, active images, natural images, and intellectual images of women had a positive (+) effect on the psychological well-being, while active images, luxurious images, and intellectual images had positive (+) effects on self-esteem. Self-esteem had a positive (+) effect on psychological well-being. Fourth, as for the effect of women s self-image on psychological well-being, self-esteem showed both direct and indirect effects. Overall, it can be seen that the formation of self-image is important to improve a women s psychological well-being, and an improvement of self-esteem is necessary.
