A Comparative Study on the Foundations of the Relationship between Ethics and Politics in Classical Confucian and Islamic Texts

유교 문헌과 이슬람 문헌과 같은 고전 텍스트에는 윤리와 정치 간에 지속적인 관계가 존재한다. 그러나 이 관계가 어떻게 되어야 하고, 어떠한 기반으로 되어야 하는지에 대해서는 많은 차이점을 가지고 있다. 이 논문은 유교와 이슬람에서 윤리와 정치 간의 관계가 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지에 대해서 비교연구한 것이다. 특히, 윤리와 정치 관계의 기반에 대한 관점을 중심으로 분석하고자 한다. 이 연구의 주요 문제제기는 다음과 같다. 윤리와 정치의 관계에서 어느 것이 우선하는가? 정치는 더 넓은 의미에서 삶을 지배하는 윤리 원칙과는 별개로 그 나름의 윤리를 가진 독립적인 영역인가? 유교와 이슬람의 고전 텍스트에서는 윤리와 정치의 관계를 어떻게 설명하고 있으며 그 근거는 무엇인가? 이 연구는 설명적 연구방법으로 수행되었지만 서술적, 분석적 연구방법을 결합시켜 궁극적으로 후속 연구를 위한 가설을 세우려고 한다.

In classical texts, whether in ethical types such as Confucian texts, in philosophical types such as Plato’s Republic and Aristotle s Politics, or religious texts like Quran, there has been the continuously supposable relationship between ethics and politics. But, they differ a lot on how this relationship should be, how it is, and what it should be based on. This research focuses on how this relation is, especially in terms of the attitude toward the foundations of this relationship. The main questions of this research are as follows: Which one is the foremost in the relationship between ethics and politics? Is politics the continuation of ethics, or is ethics the subject of politics? Is politics an independent domain that has its own certain ethics apart from ethical principles that govern life in a broader sense? How do the Confucian and Islamic classical texts explain the type of relation between ethics and politics, and on what basis do they specify? This research is explanatory and, while analyzing in a descriptive-analytic manner, ultimately tries to develop a hypothesis for further research. This text will deliberate the relationship between ethics and politics in the classical Islamic and Confucian texts. It aims to examine the type of relation and scientific conceptualization, discover the theoretical foundations of this relation, compare it in classical Confucian and Islamic texts, and make a theoretical inference from the results of the study from a comparative perspective.
